Match Report
Corofin made their third Championship game a winning one. They came out winners at the end of a pulsating game, where Corofin maintained the lead throughout, running out winners on the score line 4-6 to 4-4 against Wolfe Tones who provided a brilliant opposition in a fine facility and whose supporters added so much to the enjoyment and the occasion.
A stubborn fullback line of Oisin Tierney, Cathal Brohan and Eoin Hegarty, who moved to full forward in the second half, were well supported by Cillian Cummins who continues to find his man on his kick-outs with tremendous regularity.
The centre back line was ably led by Padraigh Murphy who broke out regularly to supply quality ball to his midfield partners - Colm Whelan and Joe Linehan both of whom covered every run of their opponents to maintain our backline resistance. They were ably supported by Rory Fitzgerald and Dara Masterson whose second half point was one of the top scores of the evening.
Darragh Moran moved from wing forward to wing back in the second half where, despite the constant pressure, cleared his lines regularly. In the first half he provided a strong partnership with Mark O’Callaghan on the left side of the field but it was play of centre forward Shane O’Donoghue that ensured a regular supply to the inside line and he was well supported by Josh O’Sullivan at right wing forward.
The inside line kept the score ticking with Dean Crowe’s overhead point the highlight of the first half as he received a good supply of ball from John Greene and Mark O’Callaghan who played a tremendous sweeper role in the last quarter to see off the final rallies of W Tones. Our second half performance was strengthened by a very strong bench of Adrian Burke, Adrian Rynne, Gerard Queally-Callinan, Tomás Barry and Luke Curtis who made a significant contribution on their introduction.
After this display Corofin are looking forward to their next outing in Corofin versus Kildysart/Coolmeen.
